Healthy Buildings
Healthy Buildings
Good building design enables humans to feel inspired and energised, perform their best and feel at home. The principles of healthy building design (see list on the right) will form a basis for each of our projects and our clients will pick which recommendations they are interested in implementing.
The design of healthy (human-centric) buildings and environmentally-friendly (planet-centric) buildings go hand-in-hand, just as wellbeing of humans and the natural world are intertwined.
There is a global research-effort underway to provide evidence-based data of healthy building design and documenting its many benefits to various stakeholders. So far, healthy offices have been shown to increase employee productivity; healthy schools have been shown to reduce children’s allergies and health conditions, as well as teacher absences; healthy houses have been shown to improve the mental and physical well-being of their residents; and healthy hospitals have been able to demonstrate faster recovery times and reduced need for pain-relieving medication.
Healthy building methodology can be applied to any building type, including offices, healthcare facilities, care environments, schools, cultural spaces, leisure facilities, residential spaces, etc. This approach also addresses the various and specific needs of people with different challenges and abilities, whether physical or mental health related or both.
In addition, the healthy building approach seeks to achieve culturally-intelligent spaces, by encouraging diversity and inclusion of different cultures, religions, ethnicities, etc.
We are especially driven to increase awareness of healthy buildings and their benefits. Each of our projects is assessed for the health-promoting features.
We have been educated in healthy buildings by the International WELL Building institute and offer WELL Accredited Professional (AP) services, as well as general healthy buildings advise, design and coordination services.
